Consequences of October 4 events for Facebook

Translated from Ukrainian

As already mentioned on the site, there are many different opinions about the system failure that Facebook suffered on October 4. Many see this as a weakness of the company. The media publish and update current information in advance. Opponents defame the social network.

However, analyzing the numerous news reports, oddly enough, one can immediately notice a certain "one-sidedness" and superficial coverage of the situation. For example, there is no objective and comprehensive analysis of the real consequences of what happened on October 4 - for Facebook.

Therefore, the site Edupro.Expert decided to publish its own vision of this case.

In fact, the consequences of users not having access to their Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp accounts at the time can be quite ambiguous!

1) For example, in terms of a controlled and well-thought-out, psychological impact on the community, the result will be 100% the opposite of what Facebook's competitors or opponents would like. (As paradoxical as it may sound).

After all, hundreds of millions of people (and even billions) have felt - how dependent they are on this social network. And how "helpless they became" at one point, when Facebook stopped working. If you think about it, for the vast majority of people, Instagram and Facebook are not just a messenger. This is a whole personal or family photo album. This is a well-established mechanism for business. Also, these are the years invested in filling and promoting your account. Many people have put "too much heart" into their personal social media profile to part with it so easily.

Therefore, thanks to the situation on October 4, Mr. Zuckerberg could have won more than he lost; playing on a "psychological trick" as old as the world - a person begins to truly appreciate something, only when he loses it.

And opponents, competitors and the media involuntarily did a kind of free advertising for the company.

In this case, it is possible to make assumptions that this action was deliberately planned by the top management of Facebook. (Especially if you take into account the confrontation between the US Antimonopoly Committee and the social network).

2) However, one should not "go to extremes". Perhaps the situation was "diametrically opposed". For example, the fact that many users instantly "became helpless" by losing access to their accounts - may encourage them to now "be more careful" with Facebook, as well as create "just in case" accounts in other social networks that do not belong Zuckerberg.

In this case, social networks such as Twitter, TikTok, VKontakte, Odnoklassniki, etc. can win.

Given this, we can assume that behind the "system failure" of Facebook, in fact, were competitors. This may to some extent explain why the company's technical department (which includes experienced and capable professionals) could not easily fix the situation (and was justified by the DNS situation, which actually looks at least suspicious).

Think also about how much, for example, Twitter benefited from it on the same day.

3) Other options also have a right to exist. It may have been a common hacker attack that Facebook experts could not handle. (Showing his insecurity). And, in that case, imagine how much personal data could be stolen by attackers.

4) And perhaps the truth is in the "simplicity" and the traditional version covered in the media - and is the truest 🙃😊
